For many years, Safety CDM Ltd has supported clients by providing independent CDM advice and assisting Principal Designers in meeting their duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
Building on that experience, we are pleased to announce that we can now act as the appointed CDM Principal Designer, providing clients with a single point of responsibility for managing health and safety during the pre-construction phase.
Whether you’re delivering a residential development, commercial project or civil engineering scheme, our experienced team can help ensure your project meets its legal duties from the very beginning.
What does a CDM Principal Designer do?
The Principal Designer is appointed by the client to plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety during the pre-construction phase of projects involving more than one contractor.
Their role is to identify and eliminate foreseeable risks through design, coordinate the design team, and ensure health and safety information is communicated throughout the project.
A Principal Designer will typically:
- Plan, manage and monitor pre-construction health and safety
- Coordinate design work to eliminate or reduce foreseeable risks
- Ensure designers comply with their duties under CDM 2015
- Prepare and maintain the Health and Safety File
- Advise clients on their CDM duties
- Liaise with the Principal Contractor throughout the project
What's changed?
Previously, many of our clients appointed Safety CDM Ltd as CDM Advisors, supporting the appointed Principal Designer with advice, coordination and compliance.
We can now also undertake the full CDM Principal Designer role, allowing clients to appoint Safety CDM Ltd directly as their Principal Designer under CDM 2015.
This means one experienced team can manage the pre-construction health and safety process from start to finish.
